What is veterinary surgery?Surgical services are provided by Southwest Veterinary Surgical Services. Their team of surgeons are highly skilled and trained in a variety of soft tissue, orthopedic, neurologic, and oncologic surgical procedures. Your surgical experience will start with a consultation, which includes a review of available medical records, diagnostic test results, and a thorough physical examination. Your surgeon will discuss your pet’s condition and any further diagnostic and therapeutic options available. A treatment plan will then be provided based on this discussion. Â
Gold-standard surgeryOur staff is available to assist you with any questions you may have. The decision to choose veterinary surgery as an option for your pet should be made carefully. You will be given extensive opportunity to ask questions about the benefits and risks of the procedure, the follow-up, and the expected outcome.  While in surgery, the team will use the most advanced and safest anesthetic techniques and monitoring available. Your pet will recover comfortably in our intensive care unit where we provide 24-hour care and monitoring under the direct supervision of an on-staff veterinarian. Pain management is integral to the comprehensive anesthetic and surgical plan. Your pet will need to spend at least the first night following surgery for 24-hour critical care and pain monitoring.  Here for you
Extended HospitalizationSome procedures require extended hospitalization for post-surgical monitoring and for the safety of your pet. SAVS is staffed 24 hours a day with veterinarians and technical staff, whose goal is to keep your pet safe and comfortable. When your pet is discharged, our surgical team will discuss your pet’s needs and explain your pet’s individually tailored home care instructions.Â
